The conception of Anatoly Sokolov’s painting is little-known in Russian exhibition places, but it predetermines all his art, and we become the witnesses of birth of one more unusual phenomenon in the world or art, when the artist tells bravely and openly about the Universe and about its energetic component as a science. It is time now to develop this theme by means of painting and forms of color, as one of the main instruments for such aim. The power of color contrasts and their harmony is known to the science, but this science is so ancient that it is almost forgotten in our time, when roughness and primitive of the current evolution period have stopped search in this field. The science of ancient magic used this phenomenon broadly, and now “the bicycle discovery” has matured. What does it let? The artist answers simply: condition and its depth. The condition when a person is allowed to touch with what is called “spiritual forces” and “energies of deep consciousness” – when the power of artist’s and viewer’s creation is merging into the whole. In the whole, ideas and unusual modes are born as new forms and their unexpected realization. Human creation becomes an exact science that is easier to open through the art and through the conditions in which the artist works as a creative personality. So, condition. It’s antipode – emotions, go to background, in such a way expanding worldview and opening the torrents of internal forces of our consciousness. Visible becomes invisible, and being moved away because of its needlessness, it turns into vapor. But at the same time Invisible comes to take its place, it is present always everywhere as the law of rhythm that runs through the painting. The rhythm of Invisible shows the core of art of color as copy of the forms where the space of all our life pulses. Our consciousness and its depth is the base of all forms of art, and the rhythm of its life as pulsing is the base of music and painting, architecture and drawings, design, dance. Everything of it “is knocking at the door” and needing its special realization and explorers. Rhythm as a period of color wave is standing in front of the discoverers of its potential in art of painting too. Fantastic forms, mighty flowings of architectural masses, plastique of ballet, different from the old one confirmed one hundred years ago, modern music full of nature sounds – everything of it and many other things are becoming new possibilities and new forms of art. Painting has become more pungent and aims at intuitive perception of a viewer, it touches the strings of human consciousness stronger, gives new conditions and extraordinary discoveries of your inner I, wakes new forces, develops creation. Art is rushing forward, its power is exciting everybody who searches novelty, and probability of new discoveries is displayed at exhibitions more and more evident and clearly. To stride bravely and free is not given to everybody, but nevertheless these attempts become more and more popular from day to day, and it incites to new forms in art, changes all life style, gives new impulse for creative work.
Anatoly Sokolov is one of people who managed to step outside Visible and who claims existence of the world beyond its bounds, where mass human consciousness has not looked into for a long time. The base of his art is energies of the space, and he is able to realize all the ideas available for human consciousness in the form of conditions extracting using dainty color and rhythm vibrations. The conception of art as a science is an unusual idea and it brings together things seemed incompatible before: physical principles of the dynamic component of thin energies, creation obviously following the assimilating of these energies, and the probability of what called “spiritual revealing” of forces of human being as the unique creator of the will impulses and thought. The science is new and at the same time very old, almost unknown, forgotten long ago. Old ideas are uncovering by new sides and the law of succession is solemnly opening the doors into new possibilities of… the forgotten form. Ways to God are revealing by means of creation, and for a creator of beauty all the roads are opened.

Anatoly Sokolov was born in 1952. The painting and its conception has not grown up at once and suddenly. Decades of intensive work in the open air preceded it, just as work at academic studios (U.M.Neprintsev’s studio, Ilya Repin St Petersburg State Academic Institute Of Fine Arts, Sculpture And Architecture), workshops and also at his own studio. Long years of skill saving and understanding of work with color, searches of his own style and world view came before the dynamic growth as a painter of new forms. Since 1992 the new phenomenon has appeared in Anatoly Sokolov’s painting, that he will name “effect of the pulsing stroke” afterwards: when color and tone, flowing to each other, turn surface of a picture into pulsing mass of color nuances and halftones, mass of ton contrasts. Refusal of form, in order to fill all canvas with pulsation of vibrating nuances, gradually became new comprehension and new instrument, when painting involves in condition unexpectedly and exactly, the condition more deep than regular methods based on the representation of form. Moreover, it has become possible to represent invisible existing as a notion so far, as an idea having not its specific form.
The theme of the Universe, of Space, its development, its dynamic guide – has become the main theme and the main instrument for the dialogue with a viewer. Width and depth of the comprehension of evolution laws let to see the problems and the scale of happening in the development of culture and painting as a particular kind of art more precisely, and more precisely define the value of an art work in the context of all culture, to remove the main mistake – the emotional part, and as consequently to avoid prejudice in appraisal. The themes of evolution processes and intense work for its creative realization logically took away many errors of the beginner from canvasses, allowed to go into mysterious and invisible world of space energies more precisely and brighter, with its play of color and the highest harmony. Clear comprehension of the interconnection of row “man-art-evolution” has appeared, where art is understood as a clue, as the dynamic power of this triad, and determines everything what is going on – both in human consciousness and everything in this life.
The principles of the new method go out from the limits of intellect and assimilate spaces of the intuitive mode as a more perfect instrument for knowledge. It let to create pictures in which delicate viewer, keenly reacting, feel the depth and conditions laid by the creator better. Exactly these conditions that a person go through become the foundation of dialogue with a picture, ideas of the artist and even with his inner life. Other ways of understanding of the I can be suddenly opened to a viewer, the opportunity to operate unlimitedly and free, having touched to the creation of another I, another world where the artist’s consciousness lives.
The row of personal and out exhibitions has presented only general conception. After that, the artist continuing active work has deliberately stopped exhibition activity until then, in his opinion, will grow up new possibilities and the selected method will be assimilated totally, in order to arrange the dialogue with a viewer more clearly and deep. The idea of harmonization of painting surfaces demanded new searches and new power savings. It occurred difficult to hold the power and exactness of the realizing idea, on such big surfaces by means of color, and it was possible to save forces for it only by persevering and stubborn work. A big part of this difficult process belongs to inner development of the artist, enlargement of his consciousness.
“…Obstinately, step by step color coats stratify, wide mighty layings gradually turn into pictorial substense, that vibrates, plays in color contrasts and nuances, and sometimes it seems that its surface begins to come alive, to breathe, to live itself, where the border between living and lifeless is subtle and illusory…”
There is an alive being in front of us – a canvas and its pictorial coat, “an illustration” of invisible life, extracting from its intangibility and rainbowness by the artist.
